Two-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane leads the world premiere of Douglas Carter Beane’s new play The Nance. The title of the work refers to the burlesque character of a stereotypically camp homosexual man, most times played by a straight actor. Beane brings audiences into the world of 1930s New York burlesque and introduces Chauncey Miles (Lane), a headline “nance” performer who, unlike his counterparts, is actually a gay man living in secrecy and fear. Directed by Tony winner Jack O’Brien, The Nance co-stars Tony winner Cady Huffman, Andréa Burns, Lewis J. Stadlen, Jonny Orsini and Jenni Barber. The Lincoln Center Theater production begins performances at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre on March 21, but Broadway.com has your first look at the show’s striking poster.
